The railroads construction started in Fairhaven, a city just south of Whatcom, in April of 1889. It was to be their contribution to the GREAT NORTHERN RAILROAD.
The actual grading of the Fairhaven & Southern (F&S) line southeast from Fairhaven
began in April 1889, after the long rainy season.

On August 14th, 1895.
There were three railroads that serviced the City of Whatcom in 1895. The BB & BC Came in from SUMAS.
The BB & E R.R. came around Lake Whatcom from Wickersham.
The GN R.R. came in from SEATTLE and went on North to Vancouver, Canada.
